“Hi, Julian.”

“You look…” He paused. “Peaceful.”

“I am.”

He looked down. “I’m sorry.”

I nodded once. “I heard you.”

“I mean it.”

“I believe you.”

His eyes lifted with something like hope.

“But believing you does not reopen my life,” I said gently.
