According to preliminary reports, the trailer was traveling towards Mexico City when it approached the Jorobas intersection. For reasons yet to be determined—potentially linked to adverse road conditions—the driver was unable to brake effectively. This failure led the trailer to strike an embankment and subsequently crash into at least five passenger vehicles and a pickup truck. The force of the impact rendered the trailer immobile, resting across all three lanes of both northbound and southbound traffic and thus completely obstructing this section of the highway.

Contributing Factors and Road Conditions

Initial assessments indicate that the wet road surfaces, attributed to rainfall earlier on the same day, may have played a key role in the trailer driver’s inability to stop in time. Local authorities have stated that a comprehensive investigation will be undertaken to ascertain the precise causes of the crash. Factors being examined include weather conditions, driver error, and the possibility of mechanical failure in the vehicle involved.

The accident led to a partial closure of the highway, which resulted in considerable traffic delays. Traffic control teams were deployed quickly to redirect vehicles and alleviate congestion as much as possible. Despite efforts made by authorities to clear the scene promptly, extensive delays were reported for several hours after the incident.
